Local SEO in Nairobi: How to Appear in "Near Me" Searches
When someone searches "lawyer near me" in Nairobi, does your business show up? Here is how to make it happen.
When someone in Nairobi searches for "lawyer near me" or "best restaurant near me" on their phone, Google shows them a map with 3 local businesses at the top. Those 3 spots are called the "Local Pack" and they are the most valuable real estate in local search.
If your business is not in that Local Pack, you are losing customers to competitors who are. Here is exactly how to get there.
Step 1: Claim Your Google Business Profile
Go to business.google.com and claim your business. Fill out EVERY field: exact business name, address, phone number, opening hours, photos (at least 10), services list, and bio/description.
Step 2: Get Reviews (The Secret Weapon)
Google ranks local businesses partly based on review count and rating. A business with 50 reviews and a 4.8 rating will almost always beat a business with 5 reviews and a 5.0 rating. Ask every happy customer to leave a review, send follow-up SMS with a direct link, and respond to EVERY review.
Step 3: Get Listed on Local Directories
Google cross-references your business info across the web. List your business on BusinessList.co.ke, Yellow Pages Kenya, LinkedIn Company Page, Facebook Business Page. The key is consistency — your NAP (Name, Address, Phone) must be EXACTLY the same everywhere.
Step 4: Add Location Pages to Your Website
If you serve multiple areas, create a separate page for each area. For example: /seo-services-nairobi, /seo-services-westlands, /seo-services-karen. Each page should mention the area name in the title, heading, and content.
Step 5: Use Local Keywords in Your Content
When writing content, naturally include local terms: "lawyer in Nairobi" (not just "lawyer"), "POS system in Westlands" (not just "POS system"). This tells Google your business is relevant to local searches.
The Result
If you follow these 5 steps consistently, you should start appearing in the Local Pack within 2-4 weeks. The more reviews you get and the more consistent your NAP is, the higher you will rank.
